NORIN 4446 is a Nowodvorski garden bollard 65 cm tall. The graphite lacquered aluminium post stands on a round base 14 cm across, and its head holds an opal glass cylinder divided by three graphite rings and closed with a flat cap.
How tall it is and where it stands
At 65 cm the bollard reaches roughly knee height, so the light falls on what lies immediately around it β the surface of a path, the edge of a terrace, a bed β rather than across the whole garden. The base is 14 cm in diameter, a figure to compare with the width of the edging it is to stand on.
The glass emits sideways, all the way round the post, and the three rings cut across it horizontally and screen the bulb from a direct line of sight. The manufacturer intends NORIN for terraces and gardens, and for the grounds of hotels and restaurants.
What comes in the box
The box holds the fitting, a mounting kit and both an operating and an installation manual. Mounting is direct, and no fixing kit has to be bought separately. The bollard itself weighs 1.68 kg and the whole package 2.17 kg.
The manufacturer rates it Class I, so the supply cable running to it has to carry an earth core β a condition worth checking in the existing garden wiring before the bollard goes into place.
Which bulb to buy, and how it takes weather
The fitting has one E27 socket and takes a bulb of up to 10 W, and the manufacturer permits LED bulbs only β halogen or incandescent are not an option here. No bulb is included, so it is bought separately.
An IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, which covers rain. It is not resistance to a pressurised jet or to flooding, so the bollard does not belong anywhere water stands.
Build
The body is lacquered aluminium in graphite and the diffuser is glass. Setting the dark, plain post against the pale glowing band is the whole of this fitting's decoration β there is no ornament and nothing projecting apart from the rings.
