Asker MD1532CB is an outdoor wall light in cast aluminium, finished in copper brown, measuring 22.5 × 11.5 × 8.5 cm. It emits downwards only, carries a built-in motion sensor and belongs to the dark-sky-friendly class – three properties that together define how it is used.
Zero light upwards
The fitting has an ULOR of 0% and a BUG rating of B0-U0-G0. In practice that means not a single lumen goes above the horizontal – all of the light lands on the wall and the drive below the fitting. The consequences are concrete: it does not dazzle a neighbour or a driver, does not light up an upstairs window, does not draw insects skyward and adds nothing to the glow over the neighbourhood. The manufacturer labels such fittings Dark Sky. The distribution is hemispherical and diffuse, so there is no hard bright disc beneath the fitting, just an even patch.
Microwave sensing, not PIR
Asker detects movement by microwave rather than infrared. Outdoors the difference matters: a PIR sensor responds to temperature contrast, so on a frosty night it sees a person perfectly, but in heat – when body and background are at similar temperatures – it can miss them. Microwave measures the reflection off a moving object and does not care about temperature. Add a dusk switch, which keeps the lamp from responding at all during the day, and motion hold: every further detection extends the burn time, so the light does not cut out halfway to the door.
Durability
IP65 means complete dust-tightness and protection against water jets – wind-driven rain or hosing down the façade will not harm it. IK08 describes mechanical strength at the level of a 5-joule impact; on a fitting at hand height, by a drive or a gate, that is a real figure rather than a paper one. Sealing comes from a silicone gasket and an EPDM gland on the cable – ozone- and UV-resistant rubber that does not harden after a couple of seasons. The clear textured polycarbonate cover carries a UV filter, so it does not yellow in the sun.
The light
8.4 W produces 446 lumens, that is 53 lm/W. For a modern diode that is low – but in a fitting that directs all its light downwards through a textured cover, part of the flux inevitably stays inside. The 4000 K colour is neutral: it shows façade colours honestly and does not turn the drive into a yellow patch. Colour rendering is CRI 80, and SDCM 3 guarantees that two fittings mounted side by side will emit the same tint – in a run along a wall that is immediately visible. A power factor above 0.97 means the fitting places almost no reactive load on the installation.
Installation
The fitting is fixed through two ø4.5 mm holes at 180 × 60 mm centres, on a 230 V supply. The light source is permanently integrated – there is no lamp to replace. Net weight 1.44 kg.
