Sandvik Down 1740AL is a box-shaped outdoor wall light 13.5 cm high, made of cast aluminium powder-coated light grey (RAL 9006). Light leaves only through the bottom, via a window of clear safety glass. The manufacturer describes the design as classic — a plain body with smooth sides and no ornament.
How it lights
The fitting directs light downwards in a 25° beam, and ULOR 0% means no part of the light goes upwards. A narrow, sharply cut pool of light forms under the fitting while the wall above stays dark — a layout for marking an entrance, a pillar or part of a facade rather than lighting a whole yard. The BUG rating B0-U0-G0 is the lowest value in all three categories: backlight, uplight and glare.
Light source
The wall light has a GU10 socket for a PAR16 LED lamp of up to 4 W. No lamp is included, so brightness and colour are chosen with the lamp — 2700–3000 K is warm, slightly yellowish light. The lamp is replaced by the user. Norlys also sells the same body as Sandvik Down 1741, supplied with a 3.9 W 2700 K GU10 lamp.
Mounting and build
The housing is 8 cm wide and projects 11 cm from the wall. It is fixed through two ø4.5 mm holes at 37 × 80 mm spacing. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and up to 3 × 1.5 mm² when several lights are looped through; the EPDM gland seals round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The fitting is protection class I, so it needs a protective earth conductor. For mounting on a building corner the manufacturer offers corner bracket 131XX0009 separately.
IP65 means a dust-tight housing resistant to water jets, so the light can hang on a facade without shelter. IK08 means resistance to an impact of 5 J, and a silicone gasket seals the glass to the body. The light weighs 1.05 kg.
