SINES 4214 is a single-light pendant with a metal shade shaped like a rounded bulb, set on a short cylindrical neck. Shade, neck and ceiling cup are sage green with a textured finish, and a narrow brass-coloured ring separates the neck from the shade.

How big it is and how low it hangs

The shade measures 140 mm across, so this is a fitting for local light rather than for lighting a whole room. For comparison, a shade of about 40 cm keeps its proportions over a table 80-90 cm wide, which is why SINES 4214 goes over a dining top in a row of several rather than on its own.

The cord runs to 800 mm at most, and the whole fitting, ceiling cup included, reaches no more than 1030 mm below the ceiling. The cord is shortened during installation, so the lower edge of the shade can sit 70-80 cm above a tabletop. Net weight is 0,6 kg.

Which bulb you have to buy

The fitting takes one E27 lamp and runs on 230 V. No bulb is included, and the manufacturer permits LED sources up to 15 W only - the installation card crosses out the incandescent lamp.

The card also gives the largest envelope that fits under the shade: 50 mm across and 105 mm long. A standard A60 pear measures 60 mm and will not go in, so a slimmer shape is needed. You choose colour temperature and light output together with the bulb. The fitting can be dimmed if you add a dimmer and a lamp described as dimmable.

Materials, mounting and where it goes

Shade, neck and ceiling cup are lacquered steel; the ring is brass-plated steel. The sage surface is matt and noticeably textured, with no gloss.

The luminaire is protection class I, so it has to be connected to an earth conductor - in an older installation without earthing that is worth checking before buying. It fixes to the ceiling on a flat bracket that the ceiling cup hides. With one light point and a 140 mm shade it works as task light: over a kitchen worktop, beside a bed, in a row above a dining table or over a low table in the living room, and in that same role it goes into hotel and restaurant interiors.
