The NEW TRIA 68 in its square version is an SLV recessed fitting with an 8.2 x 8.2 cm bezel and a body just 3.5 cm deep. The bezel is square, but the cut-out stays round - which matters in a refit, because the fitting drops into existing holes left by ordinary downlights with no square to cut.

Dim to Warm - light that warms as it dims

This is the model's defining feature. An ordinary dimmed LED keeps its colour: it simply gets darker and stays cool. The NEW TRIA 68 behaves like an incandescent lamp: at full output it runs a neutral 3000 K, and as it dims the colour falls all the way to 1800 K - amber candlelight. The output moves with it, from 470 lm at maximum down to just 47 lm at the lowest setting. That tenfold span is a real range: the same fitting gives task light and mood light.

Colour quality

Colour rendering is CRI 95 - rare in a recessed fitting and well above the usual 80. At that level wood, fabric, leather and skin tones read true; this is a fitting for a shop, a gallery, a dining room or a home kitchen where the colour of goods or food matters. The 38° beam gives a clearly defined pool: from a ceiling 2.7 m above the floor the lit circle is about 1.4 m across. The stroboscopic effect SVM is 0.02, so the light is effectively flicker-free - which counts for screen work and for filming.

Tiltable reflector

The optical insert tilts within the bezel, so the beam can be aimed at a wall, a picture or a shelf instead of straight down. That changes what the fitting is for: a row of fixed downlights lights the floor, a row of tilting ones lights whatever is meant to be seen.

Dimming and connection

The fitting is ready for direct connection to 230 V - the driver is built in and no separate transformer is needed. It dims on an ordinary phase-cut dimmer, leading or trailing edge; it is the dimmer that drives the Dim to Warm effect. Secondary current is 350 mA and inrush is 2 A over 40 µs - worth allowing for when several fittings share one circuit and a dimmer has to be chosen. Safety class II means no protective earth conductor is required.

Installation

The cut-out is round at 7 cm diameter with a 4 cm installation depth - SLV designed the fitting around a 68 mm hole, so in existing ceilings there is usually nothing to enlarge. Both clip springs and leaf springs are supplied, letting the fixing be matched to the board thickness. IP20 restricts the fitting to dry interiors, and the ambient range of -20 to +40°C covers unheated spaces too.

Lifetime and variants

The manufacturer quotes 30,000 hours to L70B50 and gives a 5-year warranty. The LED module used carries its own item number, 916436. The square NEW TRIA 68 comes in three housing finishes: white (this version), black and brushed aluminium.
