ASTO 3 is a surface-mounted spot bar for the ceiling or the wall. Its rectangular brushed-aluminium base is 45.5 cm long and carries three movable GU10 holders with ribbed rings. The luminaire connects directly to a 230 V supply.

How big it is and where to mount it

The base measures 45.5 cm long by 6.5 cm wide, and with the heads angled the fitting stands 10.5 cm off the surface. Compare those figures with the space you have above a worktop, above a shelf unit or on a stretch of hallway wall — the bar is narrow, but it clearly projects from the ceiling plane rather than sitting flush inside it as a recessed fitting would.

The same model mounts on a ceiling and on a wall, so the direction of the light is decided at the planning stage. Its 0.625 kg needs no special anchors, but the fitting is built to protection class I — the box at the mounting point must carry an earth conductor.

Which lamps to buy

Mains-voltage GU10 lamps go into the three holders, halogen or energy-saving, up to 75 W each. Lamps are not supplied, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself: usually 3000–4000 K for a hallway or kitchen, 2700–3000 K for a living room, that is warm light.

Decorative rings that fit over the lamps are included — they are the visible trim seen in the photographs, not a separate purchase. Since three lamps are needed, it is worth making sure all three share the same colour temperature and the same beam angle.

Aiming the light

Each of the three heads rotates through 330° and tilts through 90°, so the beams can be spread apart or brought together on one point. One fitting therefore lights three places at once — two pictures and a doorway, say — or concentrates all its light over a single worktop.

Build

The body is aluminium in a brushed, lacquered finish with a deliberately technical look: a straight bar, exposed joints, ribbed heads. The IP20 rating covers dry interiors. The manufacturer gives a five-year warranty.
