Tin Maxi Double is an outdoor wall light from Nordlux shaped as an aluminium cylinder that shines up and down at the same time. Both ends of the tube are closed with clear glass, and the body sits on a rectangular wall bracket, so two bands of light form on the facade above and below the fitting.
Size and where to mount it
The light is 19 cm high and 7.6 cm in diameter, and it projects 12.5 cm from the wall, which is the figure to check against the space beside a door, where the fitting must not catch the door leaf or a canopy. It weighs 0.531 kg. Nordlux intends it for the front door and for a carport.
The IP54 rating means protection against dust and against rain falling from any angle, so the light can be mounted on a wall with no roof over it. The manufacturer does state, however, that it is not suitable for seaside locations where the air carries salt.
Bulbs and wiring
Inside there are two GU10 sockets, one for each direction, and the manufacturer allows a bulb of up to 35 W in each. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself; with dimmable GU10 bulbs and a suitable dimmer switch the light can be dimmed.
The fitting is protection class I and must be connected to the earth conductor. Nordlux also states that the lights cannot be connected in parallel from one to the next, so each needs its own supply cable, which is worth planning for when several go on one wall.
Build and style
The plain, unornamented aluminium tube is a modern, minimalist form, and with light going in two directions it brings out the texture of brickwork or textured render. Besides the aluminium version, Tin Maxi Double is also made in black, white and galvanised finishes.
