Zambelis 19175 glass pendant light, ink blue / antique brass, 1xE27, ø24 cm

The Zambelis 19175 is a single pendant with a glass shade in a colour the manufacturer calls ink blue – a saturated, cool dark blue, noticeably deeper than ordinary smoked glass. The shade is close to a bell in shape and is ribbed: the vertical flutes refract the light, so with a lamp lit the glass brightens unevenly and casts a fine pattern onto the walls. It is the design decision that sets this fitting apart from plain glass shades.

The material combination

Above the shade sits a metal collar in antique brass – a warm, muted gold that contrasts with the cool dark blue of the glass. A third colour is easy to miss in the catalogue photograph: the ceiling rose is matt black, and so is the cable. At the ceiling, therefore, the fitting is black and effectively invisible; the brass appears only at the shade, just above eye level.

Dimensions and suspension

The shade is 24 cm across and the fitting itself is 28 cm high. The ceiling rose is small – 12 cm across and only 2.5 cm high – so it does not dominate the ceiling. The cable is 200 cm long and adjustable, which allows the lamp to hang low over a worktop or high in a room with volume. At 24 cm, a single unit works well over a small table or in a corner; over a longer table or a kitchen island, a group of two or three in rhythm is the natural answer.

The lamp has to be bought separately

The fitting has one E27 socket rated at a maximum of 40 W, and no lamp is included. That matters when planning the purchase, but it also opens up the choice: colour and brightness depend entirely on the lamp you fit. With dark ribbed glass it is worth remembering that deep blue absorbs a great deal of light – for a bright room a lamp with a higher output serves better, while if the fitting is there to set a mood, a warm low-wattage source is enough. Because the lower opening of the shade is exposed, the shape of the envelope will show – decorative retro lamps look right here. The manufacturer specifies no dimming provision for this fitting, so brightness control depends on fitting a dimmable lamp and a suitable dimmer in the installation.

Installation

The fitting is protection class I, so a protective earth must be run to the box and installation belongs to an electrician. Supply is 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz. The IP20 rating means dry interiors – the fitting is not intended for a bathroom or outdoors. The manufacturer specifies neither a cutting hole nor an installation depth: the fitting mounts entirely onto the ceiling surface.

Zambelis packs the lamp in a carton of 28 × 28 × 35 cm and the gross shipping weight is 2.5 kg. The product carries a three-year manufacturer warranty and CE and RoHS marking.
