A recessed fitting, not a wall lamp

BAY LED 8164 is installed flush into the wall — its body disappears inside, leaving only a rectangular bezel of 8.5 × 5.5 cm on the surface. That is the essential difference from a wall lamp screwed onto a finished face: here the recess and the cable route have to be planned in advance. At first-fix stage that is straightforward; once the wall is finished it is not.

In return you get something a surface lamp cannot offer: the fitting does not project, collects no dust on a top edge, and cannot be knocked. That is why BAY LED usually ends up where people pass close to a wall — on stairs, in narrow corridors, along paths.

Light aimed downward

Inside the bezel the diode emits at 70° downward, so the 200 lm land on the wall below the fitting and on the floor without reaching a passer-by's eyes. 3000 K is warm white — closer to a classic incandescent tone than to technical light — and colour rendering is at least 80.

200 lm from one point is deliberately modest: fittings like this light treads and mark edges rather than replacing general lighting. The effect is built from the number of points — on a flight of stairs, usually every second or third step.

IP65 and protection class I

IP65 means fully dust-tight and protected against water jets, so the fitting can work outdoors — on a façade, in a garden wall, beside external steps. The manufacturer gives the application as walls and stairs.

The fitting works in protection class I and requires the PE earth conductor alongside line and neutral. The power factor above 0.5 also deserves attention: it is low, and with a dozen fittings on one circuit that raises apparent current more than the sum of the real powers would suggest. On larger installations, allow for it when sizing the protection.

Construction

The body is painted aluminium and the lens PC plastic — a combination that resists both impact and UV. The finish is matt black, so the bezel reads as a deliberate detail against pale render and all but disappears on a dark façade. The complete fitting weighs 0.21 kg. The manufacturer declares a 10,000-hour lifetime and energy efficiency class G.
