Chance semi-flush ceiling light Quintiesse 3 x E27, Ø 45.7 cm, heritage brass, opal glass

Chance is a semi-flush ceiling light with a drum shade shaped like a four-leaf clover, designed by Hinkley and sold in Europe under the Quintiesse label of the Elstead Lighting group. The steel body is finished in heritage brass — a warm, golden tone with a brushed grain and slight shading. A panel of matt opal glass with a scalloped edge closes the shade underneath, and the fitting sits just below the ceiling on three curved straps and a central stem.

How much room it takes under the ceiling

This is the medium Chance semi-flush: 457 mm across and 330 mm tall, with no drop and no height adjustment. Those 330 mm come off the room's height, so compare them with your ceiling height and with the headroom you want to keep in a hallway or above a bed. The smaller version in the family is 362 mm across and takes two lamps.

Which bulbs you need to buy

The fitting has three E27 sockets, each rated for a lamp of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included, so you choose colour and brightness yourself — three lamps of around 800 lm together give light similar to three old 60 W bulbs, enough to serve as the main light in a bedroom or hallway. For those rooms 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellow light, is the usual choice.

The drum sides are solid metal, so light leaves downwards through the diffusing opal glass. Dimming works only with bulbs marked as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit — the fitting has no control gear of its own. It runs on 220–240 V mains and is wired permanently into the ceiling box.

Build and intended use

The shade is made of four curved steel segments separated by vertical ribs and held together by bands with visible rivets; the glass is matt, so the bulbs do not show through it. The manufacturer describes the style as transitional — a classic clover outline with plain, exposed rivets.

The fitting is intended for indoor use, and the manufacturer names the living room, bedroom and hallway. It comes with a two-year guarantee. The same model is also available in blackened brass.
