Dicte is a table lamp with a pleated white cotton shade set on a black metal stem with a round, flat base. The shade is open at the top and at the bottom, and the pleats run all the way around it. The lamp stands 42.5 cm tall.
How much room it takes and how it is powered
The base is 15 cm across and the shade 21 cm — compare both figures with the depth of the bedside table, sideboard or desk the lamp will stand on, because the shade overhangs the base. At 0.92 kg it can be moved with one hand.
The cable is black and 150 cm long, which sets how far from a socket the lamp can stand without an extension lead. The switch sits on the cable, so the light is turned on without reaching into the shade or moving the lamp. Nordlux states that the cable cannot be replaced.
Which bulb it takes
The lamp has a single E14 socket and takes a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is supplied, so you choose the colour of the light yourself — for a bedroom or a living room that usually means 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellow light.
The fitting cannot be dimmed, so neither a dimmable bulb nor a wall dimmer changes anything: it is on or off. It is a Class II fitting, double insulated, and needs no earthed socket.
Finish and the rest of the series
The shade is sewn from hand-tied pleated cotton. The fabric lets some light through sideways while the open top and bottom send the rest towards the ceiling and down onto the surface below, so the light is diffused. The 1.15 cm stem, the base and the lampholder are metal finished in black, which contrasts with the pale shade.
The lamp is meant for living rooms and bedrooms as well as hotel and restaurant interiors, where it stands on a piece of furniture and adds local light beside the main lighting. It was designed by the Danish studio Says Who. The Dicte series also includes a pendant, a wall light and a floor lamp, with shades in white and beige.
