Nordland 7118GR is an outdoor ceiling light from the Norwegian brand Norlys in a graphite finish. The body is a painted aluminium casting with a milky-white polycarbonate diffuser, sealed with an EPDM gland. This is a fitting with a motion sensor — and that is its defining feature.
Microwave sensor, not PIR
The sensor is microwave, not classic infrared. The difference is practical: microwave detects movement through the diffuser and does not lose the target at low ambient temperatures, when the heat difference between a person and the background shrinks — and on a fitting rated down to −20 °C that matters. The sensor is paired with a twilight switch, so the light does not come on in daylight, and with motion hold, which extends the on-time for as long as someone stays in the detection field.
MASTER — it drives a whole run of fittings
This is the MASTER version and that is where the real value sits. Further Nordland fittings can be chained to the one with the sensor, and motion detected by the master lights the whole run — up to 11 fittings. A long driveway, a terrace run or a façade can therefore react as a single device, with one sensor and no separate controller. The chain is built in the sequence master + slave + slave… + master. The slave fittings are models 7116 (3000 K) and 7117 (4000 K) — identical in appearance, but without the sensor and cheaper.
How much light, and of what quality
The LED module draws 12 W. The source itself gives 1500 lm, and 873 lm leaves the fitting after the diffuser — an overall efficiency of 72.8 lm/W. The 3000 K colour is warm, the colour rendering index is 80, and colour consistency between units is specified as SDCM3: with several fittings in one run, no differences in the shade of white will be visible. A power factor of PF > 0.98 matters when feeding many fittings from one circuit.
Durability and installation
IP65 means full dust protection and protection against water jets, and IK10 means resistance to a 20 J impact — the highest class on that scale. The fitting is protection class I and requires an earth conductor. It mounts on two ø5 mm holes spaced 150 × 170 mm; the terminals take up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and the loop-through to further fittings up to 3 × 1.5 mm². The ambient range is −20 to +45 °C. Norlys states a ULOR of 9% and a BUG classification of B0-U3-G1, useful wherever sky-glow limits apply.
