Norlys Bergen 270GA Outdoor Wall Light, Hot-Dip Galvanised, E27, IP55

Bergen 270GA is a Norlys outdoor wall light shaped like a classic lantern on an arm: a clear diffuser hangs beneath a flat, round brim and is held away from the wall on a horizontal bracket. The GA version is not painted – its finish is hot-dip galvanised steel, the natural silver-grey, lightly mottled surface of zinc.

Size and position on the wall

The light is 22 cm high and 22 cm wide, and the arm sets it 36.5 cm out from the wall face. The wall plate is 11.5 cm high. At an entrance this projection moves the light in front of the facade, so it falls on the steps and paving outside the door rather than only on the masonry. Compare 36.5 cm with any door leaf or shutter that opens beside it.

The light weighs 1.71 kg and is fixed through the mounting box supplied with it. The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm² and allow the supply to be looped on with up to 2 × 1.5 mm², while the gland seals a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter, so several lights on one facade can run from a single line. For mounting on a building corner, the manufacturer offers corner bracket 153, sold separately.

The plain, classic Scandinavian form suits a house facade and a balcony, as well as hotel and restaurant entrances.

Which light source to choose

The diffuser holds one E27 socket for a pear-shaped A55–A60 lamp of up to 9 W LED. No light source is included, and the user replaces it themselves. The manufacturer names an 806 lm, 2700 K LED lamp as the matching choice – the brightness of an old 60 W bulb in warm, slightly yellow light. The diffuser is open and the brim partly shades it from above, so less light reaches the wall and eaves above the fitting.

Construction and weather resistance

The light is made of hot-dip galvanised steel – the zinc layer protects the steel from corrosion and weathers to an even matt grey over time. The clear polycarbonate diffuser is UV-stabilised, and an EPDM gland seals the cable entry. IP55 means protection against dust and water jets, so the light can hang on a wall without any shelter. It is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor, and the diffuser is available as a spare part.
