Grimstad 1546GR is a Norlys luminaire recessed into the wall: a rectangular 27.1 × 12.6 cm frame holding a milky safety-glass pane. The body is cast aluminium, powder-coated in graphite RAL 7016. The milky glass diffuses the light, so close up you see an evenly lit panel rather than the bulb itself.
How big it is and how it is built in
The luminaire goes 11 cm into the wall, leaving only the flat frame on the surface. The manufacturer gives two cut-outs: 258 × 112 × 115 mm in a concrete or brick wall, and 235 × 96 × 82 mm in a layered wall. The opening is best planned together with the cable run, before the wall is rendered or clad.
The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm² and allow the supply to be looped on to the next luminaire with cable up to 3 × 1.5 mm². The gland fits a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The instructions call for connection by a licensed electrician, and protection class I means the luminaire needs an earth conductor.
What bulb it takes
Inside is an E14 socket for a halogen bulb up to 46 W or an LED bulb up to 6 W. The bulb is not included, so you choose the colour and brightness of the light yourself. The user replaces it after removing the glass.
Light leaves through the milky diffuser softly and evenly. The BUG rating B0-U1-G0 means the luminaire sends almost no light upwards and does not dazzle, which is why the manufacturer intends it for stairs, steps, paths and passageways.
Working outdoors
IP65 means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, so the luminaire can sit in a wall with no roof over it. IK08 is impact resistance up to 5 J, which matters for a fitting set low in the wall at step height. The manufacturer gives an operating range of −20 to +45 °C, worth comparing with the winter lows where it will be installed.
A silicone gasket seals the glass, and if they are damaged the diffuser and gasket can be ordered separately as spare parts 06152000 and 08154000. The plain, undecorated frame suits a facade, a garden or boundary wall, a hotel terrace or a restaurant entrance. The Grimstad range also includes the light grey version 1546AL.
