London 481BG is a classic Norlys wall lantern that hangs beneath a curved arm and points downwards. It has a four-sided roof with a finial, four clear panes and a decorative drop at the bottom. The cast aluminium body is black, rubbed with a green patina that gives it the look of aged metal.
Size and mounting
The lantern is 42 cm high and 20.5 cm wide and projects 33 cm from the wall. The wall plate is 23 cm high and is fixed with four screws through ø5 mm holes at 25 × 140 mm centres. Above a door, allow for that 33 cm projection – that is how far the fitting reaches over the doorway.
The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm², with a round sheathed cable of 7–10.5 mm diameter. Norlys sells corner bracket 152XX0009 separately, which lets you hang the lantern on the corner of a building. The fitting is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor. It weighs 1.8 kg.
Which light source
Inside is an E27 lampholder for an A55–A60 shaped bulb of up to 9 W LED. The bulb is not included, and you can change it yourself without a service visit. The shape limit matters when you buy: a larger decorative globe will not fit under the panes. An LED bulb of around 806 lm gives roughly the brightness of an old 60 W bulb.
The panes are clear, so the bulb stays visible and the light spreads sideways and down onto the wall and the entrance below the lantern.
Build and use
The panes are UV-stabilised polycarbonate, which does not yellow in sunlight as quickly as ordinary plastic. IP54 means protection against dust and splashing water from any direction, so the lantern can hang on a facade by the entrance, on a fence or beside a terrace. A diffuser service kit (0904800051) is available as a spare part.
