NIDAROS 2121AL is a Norlys surface-mounted ceiling light shaped as a cylinder 12 cm in diameter and 18 cm tall. The body is powder-coated cast aluminium in an aluminium RAL 9006 finish, and clear safety glass closes the light opening at the bottom. The fitting weighs 1.47 kg.
Where to install it
Norlys designs it for horizontal surfaces — in practice the underside of a canopy or roof overhang — from where it shines straight down. IP65 means it is fully dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it can work outdoors without any extra cover. It is fixed through two holes in the base.
The cylinder projects 18 cm below the ceiling, a figure worth comparing with the height of the canopy over the entrance or terrace it will hang under.
What light it gives
The source is an integrated Philips Fortimo LED module at 3000 K, a warm white. The fitting draws 8.3 W and delivers 754 lm — roughly what an old 60 W bulb gave. The beam is 24° and points only downward: it throws a defined pool of light on the paving or a stripe on the facade, and with a ULOR of 0% no light goes up into the sky.
It can be dimmed with a phase dimmer. The manufacturer allows both types — trailing edge (TE) and leading edge (LE) — so it works with newer RC dimmers as well as older R/RL ones.
Connection
The driver is built in, so the fitting connects straight to 230 V mains. It is protection class I and therefore needs an earth conductor. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and fittings can be looped through with conductors up to 1.5 mm², so several in a row run from one supply line. The cable gland takes round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The spacer, index 3084, is sold separately by the manufacturer.
