Rena 2074ST is a drive-over in-ground luminaire: a cylinder 13 cm across and 15.7 cm deep, buried flush with the surface, with a stainless steel front and a satin safety-glass lens. It throws light vertically upwards in a symmetric 36° beam.
Rated for 2000 kg — but not everywhere
The manufacturer states a maximum load of 2000 kg, which covers a car or a light van. It attaches a condition that must not be skipped, though: the fitting is suitable for vehicles with pneumatic tyres to drive over, but it must not be installed on traffic lanes where it would be exposed to horizontal loads from sudden braking, acceleration or changes of direction.
In practice: a driveway a car simply rolls across — yes; a parking bay where the wheels are turned while manoeuvring, or the apron in front of a gate where drivers brake and pull away — no. That one paragraph decides whether the fitting lasts a season or five years.
IP68 and IK09
IP68 is the top sealing class: dust-tight and rated for continuous immersion to 1 m. The fitting can therefore sit in a dip where water collects after a downpour and stay submerged without consequence. Sealing is by a silicone gasket and a nickel-plated brass cable gland.
IK09 means resistance to a 10 J impact — a kick, a dropped tool, a stone thrown up by a wheel. Together with the stainless steel front, that makes for a body that survives what a fitting set into a footpath actually meets.
The body is powder-coated cast aluminium, the front stainless steel, and the cover satin safety glass. The satin finish diffuses the light and softens the pool, unlike the twin version with a clear lens.
The light: 298 lm, 4000 K, CRI 90
A GU10 LED lamp of 5.5 W and 375 lm is included. After the lens, 298 lm leaves the fitting, giving a luminaire efficacy of 56.2 lm/W at 5.3 W. The gap between 375 and 298 lm is the ordinary price of a sealed satin cover — not a fault.
Colour temperature is 4000 K (neutral white) and colour rendering CRI 90 — high for an outdoor fitting. Uplighting brick, timber or planting, the difference from a typical CRI 80 is visible to the naked eye: colours do not go grey. Colour consistency between units is SDCM3, so a row of these along a path will look uniform.
All the light goes upward (ULOR 100%, BUG B0-U3-G0): the fitting does not light the surface, it lights what stands above it. If you want light shielded from above, the manufacturer offers a round cover, art. 140xx0009.
Dimming
The fitting is phase-dimmable (TRIAC) and — unusually — the manufacturer allows both methods: trailing edge (TE) and leading edge (LE). There is no need to match the dimmer to a particular technology; an ordinary LED wall dimmer will do. Power factor is PF 0.85.
Installation
The fitting is fixed by three ø4.5 mm holes spaced 120° apart on a ø100 mm circle — to the box supplied with it (box dimensions 16.5 × 16.5 × 21.5 cm) or to a properly prepared hole in wood. The manufacturer also sells separate connection boxes 145ZX0009 and 146ZX0009.
It comes fitted with a 1 m H05BQ-F 3G1 cable terminated in a THB.391.R4A.L connector. Protection class I — installation requires an earth conductor. Supply ~220–240 V.
Operating temperature range is −20 to +45 °C at a rated temperature of +25 °C. The manufacturer also notes that the glass reaches, at its centre point, working temperatures in accordance with EN 60598 — that is, it gets hot in use, worth remembering when siting it where children play or dogs walk.
A warranty condition, and catalogue data
The manufacturer stipulates that replacing the bulb during the warranty period may only be done by an authorised service or the manufacturer — changing the source yourself in that time voids the warranty. Worth planning for, given the fitting is buried in the ground.
