A rust colour that is not rust

The CS version of the Sol collection carries the tone of corten steel — a warm, matt rust-brown. The finish reproduces the look of weathering steel, which on façades and in garden architecture has become a recognisable material: darker than terracotta, warmer than bronze.

The body itself, however, is not corten steel but a painted aluminium profile — and that is an advantage rather than a compromise. Aluminium does not actually rust, so it leaves no rust streaks on pale render or decking, and it weighs a third of what a steel fitting this size would.

IP65 and an EPDM gland

The fitting is rated IP65: complete dust-tightness and resistance to water jetted from any direction. The cable entry is sealed with EPDM — a synthetic rubber whose advantage over ordinary rubber is resistance to UV and ozone, precisely the two agents that break down cheap seals on outdoor fittings within a few years.

Alongside that sits class IK06 for impact resistance — relevant on a fitting mounted in a passage, under a canopy or in a gateway, where a ladder or a bicycle can reach it.

1633 lumens directed downwards

The 19.3 W LED module delivers 1633 lm, an efficacy of 84.6 lm/W calculated for the whole luminaire rather than the module alone. Distribution is symmetrical and directed downwards, and the ULOR is 0.3% — only three parts per thousand of the output escapes upwards.

That last figure is not trivia. A ULOR below 1% marks a luminaire that meets light-pollution limits of the kind increasingly written into local planning conditions. In practice: the light lands on the paving, not in a neighbour's window and not in the sky.

Dimming and light quality

The fitting is trailing-edge dimmable, so it works with an ordinary wall dimmer rated for LED loads — no control system required. Colour temperature is 3000 K and colour rendering CRI 80.

The manufacturer also publishes SDCM 3 — the measure of colour consistency between units. At 3, a difference in tint between neighbouring fittings is effectively imperceptible, which matters when several are installed in one run along a canopy or terrace. A power factor of 0.96 is high for a fitting of this wattage and means little reactive load on the installation.

Lifetime and installation

Stated lifetime is 44,000 hours, which at three hours of use a day corresponds to roughly forty years. The energy class is E.

The square housing measures 20 × 20 cm and 11 cm deep, weighing 2.65 kg. The diffuser is satin glass, which scatters the light and hides the diodes. The fitting is made in the European Union. Installation needs a fixed 230 V supply; with IP65 the seal depends on the gland being tightened correctly, so the work belongs to an electrician.
