ALICE M is a two-light ceiling fitting from the ALICE series: two 37 cm fabric shades set on a shared 95 cm bar that hangs about 25 cm below the ceiling. The frame is lacquered steel, the shades are textile.

Two shades rather than one — why it works

A single large fitting over a long table always leaves the ends darker. Two sources spread along a 95 cm bar distribute the light evenly across the whole surface, and each shines through its own shade, so the light is soft and does not glare at the people sitting there. The arrangement suits a dining table for four to six, a kitchen island, and a wide desk.

Hung low, but not a pendant

The bar sits 25 cm below the ceiling — too little to call ALICE a pendant, and enough for some light to bounce off the ceiling and lift the room. Overall height is 66 cm. This is the answer for rooms of ordinary height where a full-drop pendant would hang too low but a flush fitting would look too flat. The rectangular 25 × 11 cm canopy covers a standard ceiling outlet.

What fabric and steel change

A textile shade behaves differently from glass or metal: some light passes through the wall of the shade, so it glows sideways as well as downwards and gently lifts the wall behind it. Grey fabric warms the transmitted light slightly. The steel frame is lacquered black and stays visually thin, which keeps the whole thing light despite two large shades. At 3.59 kg it needs no special ceiling anchors.

Lamps and wiring

The fitting has two E27 sockets and comes **without bulbs**. The manufacturer allows a maximum of 25 W per socket and **LED lamps only** — a halogen or incandescent bulb of that wattage is not permitted, because a fabric shade does not shed heat the way a metal one does. In practice this is no limitation: a current E27 LED drawing 9–12 W gives 1000–1500 lm, so two of them will comfortably light a room of up to 20 m². It mounts on a bridge and is a class I fitting, so an earth conductor is required. IP20 protection places ALICE in dry rooms.
