A drop from 72.5 cm to 3.7 metres
The most practical property of the Vida chandelier is its drop range. The manufacturer states a minimum drop of 725 mm and a maximum of 3724 mm, set on installation by shortening the 3048 mm chain. Nearly four metres is a figure designed for stairwells and double-height spaces — where ordinary fittings stop a metre below the ceiling and leave a void.
Shortened to the minimum, the same fitting works like a large ceiling light over a table in a room of ordinary height. That decision is best made before installation: the adjustment is a one-off, done by removing chain links.
74 centimetres across and 17 kilograms
Vida measures 743 mm in diameter with a fitting height of 633 mm — a large chandelier that demands a room of matching scale. Over a dining table it suits a top at least 100 cm wide; in a smaller room it dominates.
The 17.1 kg weight is the key installation number here. This is not a load for an ordinary ceiling hook — the fixing needs an anchor rated for it, and in a suspended ceiling it must be carried through to the structural slab. Installation belongs to an electrician; the fitting is protection class I, so the installation must carry an earth conductor.
Steel, crystal and burnished gold
The structure is steel finished in burnished gold, with crystal. Burnished gold is a warmer, less mirror-like tone than polished brass — it does not throw back the room like a mirror but scatters light with a matt sheen, which is why it sits better beside timber and textiles than chrome or high-gloss gold.
The ceiling pan is small for this scale: Ø 165 mm and 29 mm high, in the same finish. The supply cable is silver, SVT type.
Six E14 lamps — bought separately
The fitting has six E14 sockets rated at 40 W each. Lamps are not included and there is no built-in LED — the manufacturer states plainly "Integrated LED: No" and "Lamp(s) Included: No". That is worth remembering: the chandelier arrives without light, and the lamps have to be ordered separately.
In a fitting with crystal, the choice of lamp decides the result more than in any other. Lamps with a clear envelope and a visible filament give sharp, sparkling reflections in the crystal; frosted envelopes damp that effect in favour of softer light. 2700 K harmonises best with gold.
The manufacturer describes the fitting as compatible with dimmable lamps — it contains no control electronics itself, but with lamps marked dimmable it can be run from an ordinary dimmer.
