s.luce Belluna 12-light pendant, smoked glass Ø14 cm, 200 cm canopy, E14

The s.luce Belluna is a pendant light with twelve smoked-glass globes hanging from a black, rectangular ceiling canopy. Each globe is 14 cm across, and inside it sits a smaller, frosted bell-shaped shade that hides the bulb. The pendants are arranged in three rows.

How big it is and where to hang it

The metal canopy measures 200 × 50 cm, so on the ceiling it covers roughly the footprint of a long table top — compare it with the length and width of the table or kitchen island it will hang over. A single globe is 14 cm wide and 35 cm tall.

Each pendant hangs on a 150 cm black textile cable. The manufacturer states this suits ceiling heights up to about 300 cm, and the cables can be shortened. The usual aim is to have the lower edge of the glass 70–80 cm above the table top, so the whole table is lit without the light shining into seated guests' eyes.

Bulbs and light

The fitting has twelve E14 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included, so you will need twelve of them — the colour and brightness are your choice. Over a dining table 2700–3000 K usually works well, a warm, slightly yellowish light.

The light can be dimmed if you use dimmable bulbs and a dimmer. The frosted inner bell diffuses the light, which is why the manufacturer describes the fitting as glare-free, and the smoked glass tones the brightness down further. It is a protection class I luminaire, which means it must be connected to the earth conductor.

Glass and intended use

The globes are mouth-blown, so each one can differ slightly from the next — a feature of the technique, not a flaw. The canopy is black metal, and the cables are black as well.

The manufacturer intends the light for a long dining table and a kitchen island, as well as commercial spaces such as a café or a boutique. The plain, geometric canopy and the repeated, unornamented globes suit a modern, minimalist style. The Belluna series also comes with clear, brown and multicoloured glass and with 14 cm and 24 cm globes.
