s.luce Orb Modular 3-Light Chandelier White Glass Black Suspension

The s.luce Orb Modular in its 3-light version is a set of three white opal glass globes — 20, 30 and 40 cm across — hung on black cables from a single round canopy 40 cm in diameter. The glass is mouth-blown, so each globe carries a slightly different surface pattern.

How high it hangs and where it fits

The maker quotes a maximum drop of 500 cm, and the height of each globe is set individually at the canopy. That range is meant for rooms with real height — a gallery landing, a stairwell, a hall open to the floor above — where the three globes can be staggered across levels rather than lined up.

The canopy is 40 cm across, so it covers far more than a standard installation box and needs a flat stretch of ceiling that size. The complete fitting weighs 5.75 kg — a figure to compare with what the ceiling at the mounting point will carry, since in a suspended ceiling you have to hit the supporting frame or use fixings rated for the load.

What bulbs you need to buy

Each globe holds an E27 socket and the maker states 40 W as the maximum. Bulbs are not included, so colour and brightness are your choice — buy three identical lamps for one set, or the globes will glow differently from one another.

The fitting can be dimmed but carries no dimmer of its own: it needs bulbs described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit. It runs on 230 V and falls under protection class I, so an earth conductor has to be present at the ceiling box.

What light it gives and where it belongs

Opal glass is milky rather than clear: it hides the bulb and scatters the light in every direction, so the globes glow evenly and do not dazzle anyone looking up at them. Three diameters give three differently sized pools of light instead of one concentrated source.

The maker intends this fitting for above a dining table, in a living room and in a stairwell. IP20 restricts it to dry interiors — it is not suitable for a bathroom or outdoors.
