Orb Poseidon is a floor lamp with a hand-blown glass globe in opal white, 30 cm across. The globe rests on a slim black frame: at floor level it splits into three legs, higher up it runs as a single stem, and just below the globe it branches into arms that carry it. The whole thing measures 170 cm.

Where it can stand

At 170 cm the globe sits above the eye line of a standing adult and lights over the furniture rather than into it. The manufacturer gives 30 cm both as the globe diameter and as the lamp's width and depth — but allow for the splayed legs of the tripod at floor level.

The mains cord is 200 cm, and that is what sets the greatest distance from a socket. The lamp is protection class I, so the socket needs an earth contact, and IP20 settles it as an indoor luminaire only.

Which bulb, and how it dims

Inside the globe sits one E27 socket for 230 V. No bulb is included, and the manufacturer gives 40 W as the upper limit.

With a closed globe what matters is what fits through its opening: s.luce allows bulbs up to 12.5 cm across here, which includes the large decorative envelopes that narrow shades will not take. Brightness is set by a cord dimmer on the cable — at the lamp itself, with no dimmer in the wall — and it needs a bulb marked as dimmable.

Build and where it fits

The glass is hand-blown, so the pattern and wall thickness come out slightly different on every globe. The opal white spreads the light across the whole surface with no visible bright point; the frame and tripod are metal.

The manufacturer intends this lamp for the living room, dining room, bedroom and study — anywhere it stands beside a piece of furniture as a light point of its own. The same series carries the globe in 40 and 50 cm as well, and in smoked, brown and clear glass and in graduated finishes.
