The Sky XL Pendant Lampshade, Black Rattan, Ø 110 cm – BAZAR BIZAR

The Sky XL is a large pendant lampshade in hand-woven black rattan stretched over an iron frame. It takes the form of a wide, flat brim of radiating rattan spokes around a central cone, and the whole shade hangs from three iron struts that meet above it.

What is included and what you need to buy

This is the shade alone: the manufacturer sells it without cable, lampholder or bulb. To hang it you need a standard pendant set with an E27 lampholder — ceiling-mounted or plug-in — and an E27 bulb, both bought separately. The colour and brightness of the light therefore come from the bulb you choose; for a living room or bedroom a warm 2700–3000 K is the usual pick.

The rattan spokes are spaced apart, so light passes between them rather than only through the opening at the bottom of the cone.

Size and where to hang it

The shade is 110 cm in diameter and 31 cm high. Compare that diameter with the width of your table or the free space below the ceiling — this is a lamp for large rooms, and in a small one it will dominate the ceiling. The manufacturer gives a weight of 5 kg, so the suspension point has to carry the shade plus the fitting; in a plasterboard ceiling it needs anchoring to the load-bearing structure.

Make and intended use

The rattan is woven by hand in Indonesia. The shade is for indoor use only: the manufacturer warns that using it outdoors, even under cover, can damage it through humidity and is not covered by the warranty.

The natural material and the loose, radiating weave give it a boho form. It suits a living room, bedroom or dining room, as well as hotels and restaurants. The Sky range also comes in L and XXL sizes and in natural-coloured rattan.
