OMI 1196 is a pendant light with a black metal frame and six oval shades of white opal glass. A vertical rod drops from a round ceiling canopy, horizontal arms branch off it at different heights, and the shades at their ends point in different directions. The result is a three-dimensional, asymmetric arrangement rather than a single row of lights.
How big it is and where to hang it
The light is 55 cm high and its footprint fits within a 55 × 50 cm rectangle. It hangs on a rigid rod, so the 55 cm is a fixed distance from the ceiling to the lowest shades: with a 250 cm ceiling, the bottom of the light sits about 195 cm above the floor. A width of 55 cm suits a round table for four or the middle section of a longer table.
The base is fixed to the ceiling with two screws. The manufacturer specifies that the connection to the mains is made by an electrician.
How much light, and what kind
The light has six G9 lampholders, and the manufacturer allows a bulb of at most 5 W in each — 30 W for the whole fitting. G9 is a small capsule bulb with two wire pins, and with a 5 W limit that means an LED bulb in practice. The bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour of the light yourself: for dining and living rooms usually 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellowish light.
The opal glass shades diffuse the light and hide the bulbs, so they do not dazzle even when you look up at them. Because they face in different directions, the light reaches the table beneath as well as the ceiling and the surrounding walls.
Which rooms it suits
The manufacturer intends this light for living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, hallways and studies, and a single fitting of this width works especially well above a table. The style is modern: thin black rods with no ornament and smooth oval shades whose white stands out against the black frame.
The OMI series also includes ceiling, wall and floor lights in black and gold, and the same model in a gold finish is numbered 1197.
