Aldex Nave Black adjustable wall lamp E14 metal glass 1088C1

Nave Black is a wall lamp built from a black arm bent into an arch, with a white opal glass globe 14 cm across hanging at its end. The arm sits on a round plate screwed to the wall and swings through 180 degrees, so the globe ends up wherever it is needed.

How much wall it takes up

The arch reaches 42 cm out from the wall, and the whole fitting is 33 cm high and 16 cm wide. Those 42 cm are the figure to compare with the width of the passage along that wall and with the distance to the edge of a bed or an armchair — the lamp deliberately carries the light out over the place where you sit or read instead of keeping it against the wall.

The fitting weighs 0.75 kg. The plate is screwed to the wall on two plugs and the wires go into a terminal marked L, N and an earth terminal — the manufacturer's sheet draws three conductors, so the lamp needs a protective earth and the connection is an electrician's job.

What light source it takes

The fitting has one E14 lampholder, the small candle thread. The lamp goes in before the shade: in the instruction sheet the glass globe is pushed over the lampholder last, so the bulb has to fit inside a 14 cm sphere and disappear into it completely.

The opal glass spreads the light in every direction, and since colour and brightness are chosen with the bulb, a reading chair usually gets warmer light around 2700–3000 K. The manufacturer does state a size limit: the lamp should be narrow and no more than 10.2 cm tall, because it has to fit inside the globe — an ordinary E14 candle is often longer.

What it is made of and where it fits

The structure is metal in black, the shade is glass. The NAVE collection is built on arches and spherical shapes, and the manufacturer describes this model as modern and minimalist — the body is smooth and undecorated, and the only decorative element is the bent arch itself.

The manufacturer intends the lamp for above a bed and above a favourite armchair, and for the living room, bedroom, dining room and hallway. It is meant for dry indoor rooms.
