SPHERE XL is a pendant lamp whose shade is a globe of clear, colourless glass 35 cm across. The globe is open at the bottom - the circular opening measures about 15 cm. Only the steel parts are black: the canopy, the cable and the lampholder visible inside the globe.
How big it is and how it is hung
The shade measures 35 cm wide and 33.5 cm tall, and the whole lamp reaches a maximum of 130 cm from the ceiling. Over a table 80-90 cm wide a 35 cm globe keeps its proportion, and the bottom of the shade is usually set 70-80 cm above the tabletop.
One installation detail matters: the manufacturer states that the suspension may be shortened only by a qualified electrician - this is not a cable to trim yourself. The fitting mounts on a bracket, and the canopy is 5.5 cm across and 7.5 cm tall. The luminaire is protection class I, so it needs a supply with an earth conductor.
Which bulb to buy
The socket is E27 and the fitting takes one bulb of up to 25 W - the manufacturer permits LED lamps only. No bulb is supplied: the box holds the fitting and the instructions. The source is replaceable, so you choose the colour and the brightness yourself.
The glass is clear and does not diffuse the light, so the bulb is visible from every side and becomes part of how the lamp looks. For the same reason a bare high-output lamp will glare - decorative bulbs with visible filaments, or ones with an opal envelope, suit this fitting.
Glass and build
The shade is glass and the remaining parts are steel lacquered black. The contrast stays minimal: a globe, a thin black cable and a small canopy, and nothing else. The manufacturer gives the style as modern and intends the fitting for indoor use only.
The lamp weighs 1.76 kg net and is made in Poland. SPHERE is a family of globes in several diameters, so a few fittings can be grouped over one surface at different heights.
