Cruet XL is an s.luce pendant light with eight glass shades on separate cables, hanging from one round ceiling canopy 80 cm in diameter. This version combines the two shade shapes of the Cruet range — tall ones 17 cm across and 30 cm high, and flat ones 28 cm across and 14 cm high — in multicoloured glass: clear, smoked and amber.
Where it hangs
The cables are up to 500 cm long, so the light is meant for spaces open through two storeys: a stairwell, an entrance hall with a gallery or a living room with a void above it. s.luce describes the Cruet version with a 5 m drop as a light for stairwells and high rooms. Compare those 500 cm with the distance from the ceiling to the point the shades are to hang above.
The canopy is 80 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep — that is the space it takes on the ceiling, and all eight cables leave from that single mounting point.
Bulbs and light
The light has eight E27 lampholders, each for a lamp of up to 40 W. No bulbs are included, so brightness and light colour depend on the lamps you choose. The glass is see-through, so the bulb stays visible and its shape becomes part of the look.
Smoked and amber shades let the light through dimmer and warmer in tone than clear ones, so each of the eight shades glows a little differently. s.luce lists the light as dimmable, provided dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer are used.
Construction and connection
The shades are mouth-blown glass, and s.luce points out that each one is unique — small differences in shape between the shades come from that technique. The rest of the construction is metal, and the shade shape draws on the retro style the maker assigns to the range.
The light is Class I, so connecting it requires a protective earth conductor.
