Crutch is a pendant light shaped as a narrow metal tube 5.8 cm across and 40 cm tall. The body is white, with a chrome cylinder pushed over it. The light leaves through the opening in the lower edge of the tube.
How it hangs and how much room it takes
The tube is only 5.8 cm across, so it takes up less space than a shade and does not block the view over a worktop. The cable is 200 cm long and the maker intends it to be shortened, so the same fitting can hang low over a table or keep a long drop in a room open to the floor above.
Over a table the drop is usually shortened so the bottom edge sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop. The fitting is protection class I, so the supply cable in the ceiling has to carry an earth conductor.
What lamp it needs
Crutch has one GU10 lampholder and takes a lamp of up to 15 W. No lamp is supplied, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself — over a dining table that usually means 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellow light.
It can be dimmed, but that needs a dimmable GU10 lamp and a dimmer in the installation. The fitting itself holds no control electronics.
What the sliding cylinder changes
The chrome cylinder is not only decoration. It slides along the tube and sets the beam that way: from a wide circle to a narrow point. It is the only adjustment this fitting has, and it is made by hand.
The cylinder lifts off and can be swapped, and the maker produces it in several finishes — chrome on this one. Because each drop is shortened separately, several Crutch pendants can hang side by side at different heights.
Where the maker places it
