s.luce Velo Glass Pendant Light Clear 20 cm E27 White Suspension 500 cm

The s.luce Velo is a pendant light with a shade of hand-blown clear glass. The cut runs vertically over the full height of the shade, and its lower edge stays open. The fitting hangs on a white fabric-braided cable finished with a white ceiling rose.

Size and hanging height

The shade measures 20 cm across and 20 cm high, and the Ø 12 x 2.5 cm ceiling rose covers a standard installation box. The suspension is 500 cm long, which is what a room open to the floor above calls for: on a gallery, in a hallway or over a flight of stairs the fitting can drop several metres below the ceiling.

The cable is shortened during installation, so the same fitting also hangs low over a table. Above a table top the lower edge of the shade usually sits 70-80 cm above the surface. In a tall room, compare the 500 cm with the distance from the ceiling to the level where you want the glass to sit.

How much light it gives

The Velo takes one E27 lamp of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the light colour and brightness yourself. The manufacturer states that the fitting dims only through the lamp: you need a bulb described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit, because the luminaire itself carries no control gear.

The glass is clear and the shade is open at the bottom, so the bulb is visible from every side and the light leaves downwards without a diffuser. That changes how you pick the lamp: a decorative bulb with a visible filament is part of how this pendant looks rather than a hidden component.

Build and the rooms it is meant for

The glass is mouth-blown, so the pattern and wall thickness differ slightly from piece to piece. The bracket, ceiling rose and lampholder are metal, in a white matched to the cable braid.

The Velo series covers clear, smoked and brown glass in diameters of 18, 20 and 25 cm, so several fittings can be grouped at different heights. The manufacturer intends it over a dining table and over a kitchen island, and thanks to the five-metre suspension also for a living room and a stairwell.
