s.luce Velo 12-Light Pendant 200 cm, Smoked Glass Ø20 cm, White Canopy

In this version, s.luce Velo is twelve mouth-blown smoked-glass shades, 20 cm in diameter, hung in three rows beneath a white rectangular canopy 200 cm long. The textile cables the shades hang from are white as well.

Size and hanging it over the table

The s.luce Modular canopy measures 200 × 50 cm, and the manufacturer recommends screwing it to the ceiling at nine points. That matters with a suspended ceiling: the whole length of the bar needs solid support in the structure. The three rows fill a band as wide as the canopy, which is why s.luce intends this light for large rectangular tables up to 3 m long.

Each of the twelve cables is 150 cm long and can be shortened on its own. They are usually set so the lower edges of the shades hang 70–80 cm above the tabletop — with a standard 75 cm table, about 150 cm above the floor. Under a high ceiling the cable length lets the shades come down to that height, and different lengths make a three-dimensional arrangement.

Light sources and dimming

The light has 12 E27 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself. The shades are open at the bottom, so most of the light falls straight down onto the table, while the smoked glass dims and warms the light that passes through the sides.

The fitting can be dimmed with dimmable bulbs and a suitable dimmer. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.

Which rooms it suits

The manufacturer intends this light over a dining table, in an open kitchen with an island, in a combined living and dining room and in a bedroom, as well as in restaurants. The plain ribbed shape of the shades and the single glass colour suit modern and minimalist interiors.
