SATURN M is a Nowodvorski wall light built from two plain shapes: a lacquered steel disc 25 cm across in a sage green finish, and a white opal glass sphere 12 cm across set at its centre. The name is not accidental - a globe with a ring around it reads as a planet - and the whole fitting projects just 14.2 cm from the wall.
The light it gives
Opal glass diffuses the light evenly in every direction, with no hard shadows and no visible filament. Part of the output falls on the disc behind the globe and bounces back onto the wall, leaving a soft halo around the fitting. This is decorative, atmospheric light: it works as secondary lighting in a living room, beside a bed, in a hallway or along a staircase, but it will not replace a main ceiling fitting.
Materials and colour
The disc is lacquered steel in sage green - the manufacturer's paint reference P029 - a muted, dusty green that sits well with wood, beiges and white. The shade is white opal glass. The contrast between matt metal and smooth glass is the only decorative gesture here; otherwise the form is entirely free of ornament.
Light source
The fitting has one light point with a G9 socket. The manufacturer permits LED sources only, up to 4 W - worth noting, because a conventional higher-wattage G9 halogen capsule is not intended for this luminaire. No bulb is supplied, so the colour temperature is your choice, and the source is replaceable rather than built in.
Installation
The luminaire is designed for direct mounting on a wall, on roughly 220-230 V mains at 50/60 Hz. It is protection class I, so it requires an earth connection, and rated IP20, which limits it to dry indoor rooms. Fixings (plugs and screws) are not included in the box - choose them to suit your wall.
