Vanguard is a wall light with a rectangular back plate and an open, hexagonal frame of flat steel standing in front of it. Inside the frame sit two exposed E14 candle sockets with no shade. The whole piece is finished in Old Black – an uneven, rubbed surface with grey highlights that shows clearly in the close-up shots. The wall light belongs to a Quoizel collection and is distributed by Elstead Lighting.
Dimensions and mounting
The wall light is 30.5 cm tall and 18 cm wide and projects 12.2 cm from the wall. That projection fits a corridor wall or the space beside a mirror, but it is worth comparing with the width of the passage where it will hang. The fitting weighs 1.81 kg and is Class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Bulbs and light
The fitting takes two E14 bulbs of up to 40 W each. Bulbs are not included. With no shade, the bulbs stay fully on show and shape the look of the fitting, which is why clear candle bulbs with a visible filament suit it best. Light spreads in every direction rather than being aimed up or down.
The wall light is compatible with dimming: dimmable bulbs and a dimmer switch in the installation are all it needs. It has no built-in driver.
Construction and character
The body, frame and back plate are steel. The strict geometry of the frame, the exposed bulbs and the rubbed metal finish give the fitting an industrial character. It is intended for indoor use, and the Vanguard series also includes pendants for three and four bulbs, so the same motif can be repeated over a dining table.
