Capitol Hill wall lamp - 2 light sources - Brushed nickel Elstead

Capitol Hill is a two-light wall light by the American brand Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. The steel frame has a brushed nickel finish with a satin, grey-silver sheen. It takes the form of a classic wall sconce: a bent rod leaves a round, stepped wall plate, curls into two loops and carries two upright candle sleeves for the bulbs. There are no shades, so the bulbs stay exposed.

Size and installation

The wall light is 27 cm high and 24.7 cm wide and projects 15.6 cm from the wall — worth checking against the spot where it will hang, especially beside a doorway or in a passage. The round mounting plate is 12.7 cm in diameter, and the whole fitting weighs 0.83 kg.

It is a Class I fitting, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor. The manufacturer specifies it for indoor use only.

Bulbs and light

There are two E14 sockets, each rated for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included — the manufacturer suggests a clear candle-shaped LED bulb, sold separately. With the sleeves left bare, the shape of the bulb decides how the lamp looks, including when it is switched off.

Colour and brightness come from the bulbs you choose: 2700 K gives warm, slightly yellow light close to a traditional incandescent bulb, while 3000 K gives warm white. The fitting can be dimmed, provided you use bulbs marked as dimmable and a dimmer that works with them. Without shades, the light spreads sideways, up the wall and downwards.

Style and range

Smooth sleeves, loops of bent rod and ball finials on the horizontal bar make this a classic design; the manufacturer presents it as one that sits equally well in traditional and contemporary interiors. The wall light is intended for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms as wall lighting that supplements the main ceiling light.

The Capitol Hill range also includes six-light and twelve-light chandeliers in the same finish, and this wall light is available in black and in painted natural brass as well.
