Capitol Hill is a twelve-light chandelier by Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. The steel frame is painted in a natural brass colour, and the candle holders sit on two levels: around the outer ring and in a lower inner cluster framed by the curved arms. The whole fitting hangs on a chain from a round brass-coloured ceiling pan.
Size and installation
The body measures 88.2 cm across and 77.9 cm high, and weighs 8.01 kg. The overall height from the ceiling ranges from 87.8 to 205.4 cm, and 121.9 cm of chain is supplied to set the drop. Over a dining table the bottom edge of a chandelier usually sits 70β80 cm above the tabletop, so compare this range with your own ceiling height, and the 88 cm diameter with the width of the table it will hang over.
The ceiling pan is 14.7 cm in diameter. The chandelier is Class I, so the installation must include an earth conductor. It is intended for indoor use only.
Bulbs and dimming
Each of the 12 holders takes an E14 bulb of up to 40 W, which means up to 480 W in total with traditional bulbs. Bulbs are not included. Elstead recommends clear-glass E14 LED candle bulbs for this fitting: 4 W, 400 lm and 3000 K. Twelve of them give roughly 4800 lm for 48 W, a warm white output sufficient as the main light in a room.
The fitting works with dimmable bulbs. Dimming requires a wall dimmer and a full set of twelve bulbs marked as dimmable β the recommended Elstead LED candles meet that condition.
Where it fits
The chandelier is intended for use over a dining table, in hallways and in hotel interiors. The form is classic: candles on a metal ring, a visible chain and a round ceiling pan, with no shades hiding the bulbs β so the shape and colour of the bulbs themselves become part of the look. The Capitol Hill family also offers this model in black and in brushed nickel.
