The dining room is what chandeliers were invented for. A table asks for light gathered directly above it, and people sit under it long enough to notice the fitting properly.
Two numbers settle it
Height: 75–90 cm from the tabletop to the bottom edge. Below 70 cm the fitting starts blocking the person opposite; above 100 cm it stops defining the table and simply lights the room.
Diameter: roughly half the width of the table. A 90 cm table takes a 40–50 cm fitting. Anything wider begins to interfere with the people at the ends.

Light that flatters food
Warm 2700–3000 K with good colour rendering. Under cool light, food looks grey. Candle lamps on E14 throw the characteristic sparkle across glassware and cutlery — a virtue at the table and a nuisance in a study. If the dining area opens onto a living room, choose something dimmable.
Common questions
How high should a chandelier hang above a dining table?
75–90 cm above the tabletop.
What size chandelier over a dining table?
About half the table's width, keeping 15 cm clear on each side.
Does the chandelier go in the centre of the room?
No — the centre of the table. A ceiling rose with an adjustable suspension solves any mismatch.
