Arden LED wall light - 1 light source - Matte Black, Walnut Veneer Elstead

Arden is an LED wall light from Alora Mood in matte black with a walnut veneer accent. A vertical black tube runs into a ribbed, wood-wrapped section, and at the bottom an opal glass globe hangs beneath a perforated half-dome. The light source is built in, so no bulb needs to be bought for it. It is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Size and wall mounting

The fitting is 35.6 cm high and 15.2 cm wide and projects 17.8 cm from the wall. Compare that last figure with the clear width of the passage if the light is going into a narrow corridor. The tube is held on a short arm coming out of a round wall plate, and the whole fitting weighs 0.66 kg.

It is a Class II fitting, meaning double insulated: no earth conductor is needed to connect it, which makes installation easier where the wall box has no earth. The manufacturer specifies it for indoor use only.

What light it gives

The integrated LED module gives 3000 K light, a warm white close to a household bulb. A colour rendering index of CRI 93 means wood, fabrics and wall colours look natural under it. The module is part of the fitting and is not changed like a bulb. It draws 6.67 W and gives 557 lm, which is less than an old 60 W bulb (about 800 lm), so this is accent or supplementary light rather than the main light for a room. The manufacturer lists the fitting as dimmable.

Light comes out through the opal glass globe, which diffuses it softly with no harsh point. The manufacturer describes two looks: the globe partly covered by the decorative half-dome, or left exposed when a plainer look is wanted.

Finish and intended rooms

The body is made of aluminium and steel. Matte black set against the warm walnut grain on the ribbed stem gives a contrast the manufacturer calls slightly industrial, on a modern form built from a straight line and a globe. The light is intended for bedrooms, kitchens, corridors, hallways and dining rooms. The same model also comes in a brushed gold finish and in a two-globe version.
