Arden Small LED Pendant Light - Matte Black, Walnut Veneer by Elstead

In this version the small Arden LED pendant by Alora Mood has a matt black shade shaped as a perforated half-dome and a stem with a ribbed section wrapped in walnut veneer. An opal glass globe sits under the shade, and a round black rose covers the ceiling connection. It is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Dimensions and drop adjustment

The fitting is 24.1 cm high with a 15.2 cm shade and weighs 0.58 kg. The drop from ceiling to the bottom of the light is set during installation between 42.3 and 210.1 cm; the cable is 182.9 cm. A useful reference is 70–80 cm between the lower edge of the shade and the worktop — from that and your room height you can work out the drop you need.

It is a Class II fitting, so no earth conductor is needed.

Light over the worktop

The built-in LED module of around 7 W gives a warm white 3000 K. The CRI 93 colour rendering matters exactly here: food and wood beneath the light look as they do in daylight. The source is not replaceable. The manufacturer states the pendant is dimmable.

The opal glass diffuses the light, and the perforations along the shade's rim let through small points of light. The manufacturer also allows the half-dome to be removed, leaving just the globe.

Character and use

Matt black aluminium and steel alongside warm walnut are described by the manufacturer as an industrial accent, while the simple silhouette stays modernist. The manufacturer's room photo shows three of these hung in a row above a kitchen island — the usual way to use a 15 cm pendant. It also suits dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways and corridors.
