Elstead ASHLAND BAY Outdoor Flush Ceiling Light 2xE27 IP44 Burnished Bronze, Seeded Glass, Ø 30.5 cm

An outdoor ceiling light, not a room fitting

ASHLAND BAY is a fitting made for outdoors — the manufacturer classifies it explicitly as exterior, and IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction. Its place is a covered terrace, a loggia, a porch or a summerhouse: somewhere it takes wind-driven rain but does not stand in a jet of water. It will of course work indoors, but buying it purely for a room means paying for sealing you will never use.

Seeded glass

The side wall and the lower, slightly domed cover are seeded glass — with air bubbles introduced deliberately. That is not a manufacturing flaw but an intended finish: the bubbles scatter light unevenly and produce the characteristic hand-made glint associated with coastal styling and harbour lanterns. Both lamps are visible through the glass, so the choice of lamp shapes how the fitting looks.

Burnished bronze on aluminium

The structure is entirely aluminium, finished in burnished bronze — a warm, muted tone with visible patina. Aluminium is a functional choice here: it does not rust, so the fitting will not leave rust streaks on a pale soffit. The manufacturer backs it with a 3-year anti-corrosion guarantee — a guarantee on the coating rather than a general product warranty.

Two E27 sockets — you choose the lamps

The fitting has two E27 sockets, each taking a lamp up to 60 W; no lamps are included and there is no integrated LED module. It is dimmable-compatible, but only with dimmable lamps — it carries no control gear of its own. With the lamps visible through the glass, retro-style LEDs at 2200–2700 K are worth the trouble; cold light undoes exactly the effect this fitting was designed for.

Dimensions and installation

The fitting is 30.5 cm across and 15.2 cm deep, mounting directly to the ceiling (ceiling pan Ø 30.5 cm). Protection class I — an earth conductor is required. Supply 220–240 V, 50 Hz. Net weight 2.43 kg, gross 2.7 kg.
