Halleron is an outdoor flush ceiling light from the American brand Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. A dome of clear seeded glass, with small air bubbles in it, is held by curved aluminium ribs, an openwork ring of upright slats runs around the top, and a turned finial closes the fitting underneath. The finish is burnished bronze — a warm metallic tone with lighter worn highlights along the edges. The shape takes its cue from Victorian-era lanterns.
Size and where it fits
The fitting is 30.5 cm in diameter and 22.9 cm high, so under an entrance canopy or a porch ceiling it takes up just under 23 cm of headroom — compare that with the height of the door and of the walkway beneath it. It weighs 2.88 kg.
The manufacturer rates it for exterior use. IP44 means protection against water splashing from any direction, which suits it to a covered terrace, gazebo or porch ceiling. The light is protection class I and needs a protective earth conductor on a 220–240 V supply.
Bulbs and light
Inside are three E14 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulbs are included, so three need to be bought. The clear glass leaves the bulbs on show, which is why candle-shaped lamps suit it — the manufacturer recommends, as a separately sold accessory, a dimmable 4 W E14 LED candle at 3000 K, which is warm white.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps: with a dimmer in the circuit, all three bulbs must be marked as dimmable. Seeded glass does not diffuse light the way an opal shade does; instead it throws small sparkles around the fitting.
Materials
The body is aluminium and the shade is seeded glass with trapped air bubbles. In the Halleron collection the same flush light also comes in the grey Londonderry finish.
