Holborn is a square flush ceiling light shaped as a glass box: clear panes with bevelled edges enclose two bulbs, framed in brass with a pierced frieze of upright bars around the top and four small knob feet at the lower corners. The solid brass frame is finished in Verdigris – the blue-green patina that brass and copper develop in the open air.
Where it can be fitted
The fitting is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and the manufacturer intends it for outdoor use – on the ceiling of a covered porch, entrance canopy or terrace. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to the earth conductor.
It measures 30 × 30 cm and stands 16.5 cm deep from the ceiling. Under a low porch ceiling, check those 16.5 cm against the door height and the headroom for walking beneath it. It weighs 5.8 kg, so it is fixed to a solid ceiling or supporting structure.
What light it gives
Inside are two E27 lampholders for bulbs of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included. The glass is clear, so the bulbs stay visible – a decorative filament bulb becomes part of the look, and you choose its colour yourself; a warm 2700 K suits the green patina. There is no built-in dimmer, but the fitting works with dimmable bulbs and a dimmer switch in the wiring.
Construction and series
The body is solid brass, dipped to give it the Verdigris finish, and the enclosure is made of bevelled clear glass panes. The classic lantern form with its pierced frieze suits traditional-style facades.
The Holborn series offers the same fitting in brushed brass, dark bronze and polished chrome as well, so the frame can match the other metalwork on the facade.
