NORLYS Lillehammer 1581WH outdoor wall light, white RAL 9003, LED 7.3 W 3000 K, up and down light

The NORLYS Lillehammer 1581WH is an outdoor wall light shaped as a plain rectangular block that throws light upwards and downwards at the same time. The body is cast aluminium, powder-coated white (RAL 9003), with panes of optical safety glass sealed with silicone in the top and bottom faces.

How big it is and where it fits

The light is 18.5 cm high and 8 cm wide and projects 11 cm from the wall, figures to compare with the pier or strip of wall where it will hang. Norlys designs it for lighting walls, facades and architectural details; it also suits a balcony and the entrances of hotels and restaurants. IP65 means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it can hang on an exposed wall with no canopy, and its impact rating is IK08.

On light render the white body all but disappears, so on such a facade it is the bands of light that stand out rather than the fitting itself.

How much light and what kind

Two Cree LED modules are supplied in the fitting, at 3000 K, a warm white close to a traditional bulb, with CRI 80 colour rendering. Both beams are 60°, so two bands of light appear on the wall, above and below the fitting; the maker states that half of the flux goes upwards (ULOR 50%). The modules produce 1008 lm in total and 229 lm leaves the fitting at 7.3 W. That is enough to bring out the texture of a wall, a pier or an entrance, not to light a whole driveway.

The light can be phase-dimmed, but only with a trailing-edge (TE) dimmer.

Installation, wiring and service

It fixes through two ø5 mm holes spaced 45 x 130 mm apart. It is protection class I, so it needs an earth conductor connected. The terminals take conductors up to 3 x 2.5 mm² and allow the supply to loop on to the next fitting (up to 3 x 1.5 mm²), so several lights on one wall can run from a single line. An EPDM gland seals round cable of 7–10.5 mm diameter. The LED modules and driver are replaced by a professional service, and Norlys offers service kit ZS1581 for this light. The maker rates the modules at over 52,600 h (L90) and the driver at 50,000 h.
