Zinc that darkens with time — and that is intended

Nordlux says so plainly on the datasheet: "over time, exposure to the elements causes the galvanised steel to develop a beautiful, darker patina". This is not a fault and not a coating failing — it is how the material is meant to behave. A light bought today will not look identical to new after two years: the brighter, silvery zinc shifts to a warmer matt grey. Worth knowing before ordering a second one to make a pair a year after the first.

"Designed For Seaside" — suitable for the coast

Pontio belongs to the Nordlux range built explicitly for coastal locations. The datasheet confirms it with its own field ("Suitable for Seaside: Yes"), and the manufacturer gives a 15-year guarantee on surface deterioration. That commitment is specifically about corrosion and oxidation of the finish rather than general function — and on a steel fitting in salt air, that is exactly the figure that decides how it looks years on.

Parallel connection

The sheet notes "Parallel connection: Yes" — the fittings can be wired in parallel on one circuit. On a facade where several lights are to run along a wall, that means one supply line passing through successive points instead of a separate feed to each.

An oblique shade and an architectural form

Designed by the Danish duo Says Who. The shade is cut at an angle, so the fitting reads differently from every direction — from one side a compact box, from another a cone opening downward. The body is 19 cm high by 15 cm wide and projects 9.5 cm from the wall. Material: galvanised steel with a glass cover.

GU10 chosen separately

No light source is supplied. The socket is GU10 and the maximum is 25 W. A replaceable lamp means colour and output are your choice, and dimming is possible — but only with a dimmable lamp, since the fitting itself contains no control electronics.

Installation

Ingress rating IP54, protection class I (an earth conductor is required), impact resistance IK05. One constraint is worth checking before work starts: the manufacturer notes "Mount directly into insulation: No" — the fitting must not be mounted straight onto a layer of thermal insulation; an insulated wall needs a solid bearing point.
