NUMINOS PD DALI S is a pendant light shaped as a slim matt black aluminium cylinder, 6.5 cm in diameter and 16.2 cm tall. The LED module sits recessed deep inside the tube behind a black ring, so from the side you do not see a glowing point. The fitting hangs on a 250 cm cable ending in a round ceiling canopy 10.3 cm across.

How big it is and where to hang it

This is the smallest size (S) of the line, which is why several are usually hung in a row over a kitchen island or a dining table. The 250 cm drop also suits a high ceiling; per the manufacturer's manual, the electrician shortens the cable at the canopy after loosening the strain relief.

The manufacturer permits ceiling mounting only, and only in dry indoor rooms. The fitting is protection class I, so it needs an earth conductor connected.

How much light and what kind

The integrated LED module draws 7.8 W and delivers 950 lm, slightly more than an old 60 W bulb, but concentrated in a 24° beam. That narrow cone puts a defined pool of light on the surface below rather than lighting the whole room. 2700 K is warm, slightly yellowish light, and Ra 90 means food and wood on the table look natural. UGR 16 is a low glare rating, which matters for a lamp hanging at the eye level of people seated at the table.

The driver is built in, so the fitting connects straight to 230 V mains with no separate transformer to buy. The light source and driver may only be replaced by a professional; SLV rates the module at 50,000 hours.

Dimming via DALI

The fitting dims via DALI-2, and the datasheet also lists the Touch function, meaning dimming with a push button. DALI control needs two extra control wires connected to the DA terminals in the fitting plus a DALI controller — the manual names DALI dimmers and DALI lighting control as the suitable options.

The NUMINOS series

NUMINOS is SLV's downlight and spotlight system. The same DALI pendant comes in sizes S, M, L and XL, from 7.8 to 27 W and from 6.5 to 12 cm in diameter, with a 24°, 36° or 60° beam. That lets one interior combine wider fittings for general light with narrow spots in the same look.
