Steinel IS 2180 ECO in white is a passive infrared outdoor motion detector for automatic switching of a connected circuit. Its housing measures 55 × 78 × 120 mm, carries an IP54 rating and is made of UV-resistant plastic. The manufacturer specifies surface mounting on a wall or at a corner; the corner wall bracket itself is an optional accessory.
Detection area and adjustments
The detector covers a 180° angle. Its tangential reach can be set to a 5 m or 12 m radius, while the recommended installation height is 2 m and the permitted range is 1.8–4 m. These measurements are useful to compare with the layout of the entrance, driveway or façade that is intended to be monitored.
Potentiometers set the twilight threshold from 2 to 2000 lx and the switching time from 10 seconds to 15 minutes. Steinel also states that individual segments of the detection area can be masked out. This lets the observed zone be adapted to the particular mounting position.
Power supply and outdoor use
The model operates on 230–240 V / 50 Hz. Its maximum switching output for a resistive load is 2000 W; Steinel gives separate output limits for LED lamps according to lamp wattage. The sensor is rated IP54 and has an operating-temperature range of −20 to +50 °C. It is intended for outdoor locations including front doors, around buildings, terraces, balconies, courtyards and driveways.
Design and package
The compact white housing is visually restrained on a light-coloured façade. The package contains one detector, and the PU1 net weight is 0.171 kg. Connection is by cable, so cable routing should be considered before installation.
