STEINEL: sensors and sensor lights from Germany

STEINEL is a German group headquartered in Herzebrock-Clarholz, which calls itself "the inventors' company" and has been developing its inventions since 1959. Development and manufacturing take place in the group's own innovation and production centres in Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Moldova, and the company names "Made in Europe" as one of the keys to its success. Its speciality is sensor technology: motion and presence detectors, and lights with the sensor built in, so that light comes on only where and when it is needed.

How STEINEL lights think

The thread running through the range is integrated sensing for security and energy saving. STEINEL works with several detection principles – passive infrared, high frequency (radar), ultrasound and optical sensors – and uses high-efficiency LEDs in its luminaires, many of them built in. Designs run from timeless, elegant wall lights to modern pieces with clean lines and minimalist forms, plus robust models with a protective grille for demanding locations. Bluetooth Mesh models link up without extra wiring and can be set up in the STEINEL app, where brightness, light colour and sensor settings are adjusted.

STEINEL at Lunares

At Lunares you will find STEINEL motion sensors and presence detectors, for walls and ceilings, indoors and outdoors, surface-mounted and flush-mounted, including DALI-2 models for building installations. Next to them are outdoor wall lights and flush ceiling lights with built-in sensors, LED floodlights, bollard lights, house numbers, solar wall lights and linear lights.

Choosing a STEINEL product

  • Motion or presence. A motion detector reacts to walking movement and suits entrances, driveways and corridors. A presence detector also registers small movements, such as someone working at a desk, so the light stays on while the room is in use.
  • Detection angle and range. Check the stated angle (for example 180° or 360°) and range against the area you want covered, and mount the sensor at the height given by the maker.
  • With or without a sensor. Many lights come in versions with or without a sensor, or with a dusk sensor only. Pick the version to match how the light is switched.
  • Light colour. Warm 3000 K is pleasant at the front door; neutral 4000 K suits work areas. Some outdoor models offer very warm, insect-friendly light.
  • Protection. IP ratings differ a lot between indoor and outdoor models, so check the rating of each product for its location.
