sensIQ S EVO is a motion detector from Steinel's Professional Line, made for surface mounting on a building wall. The housing stands just 7.4 cm tall and 11.4 cm wide, while the lens covers 300° around the mounting point. Steinel includes the RC9 remote control and a corner wall bracket in the box, so the detector can also sit on the corner of a facade.
Four pyro sensors and 1360 detection zones
Detection runs on a quadruple passive-infrared system with mixed-light metering. The field of view is split into three 100° sectors for 300° of coverage at a 180° aperture, and 1360 separate zones work inside it. Tangential reach — movement crossing the field — extends to 20 m and covers 1047 m²; movement heading straight at the detector is picked up within a 4 m radius (42 m²). Reach is set with dials, independently in three directions between 2 and 20 m, with temperature stabilisation, and individual segments can be masked out so traffic on the neighbouring plot does not trigger the light. A sneak-by guard and monitoring of the area directly beneath the unit come on top of that.
What it can switch, and how much
The switching output handles 2000 W of incandescent and halogen load, 1500 W of fluorescent lamps on electronic ballast, 1000 VA of low-voltage halogen and up to 50 luminaires. For LEDs, Steinel quotes three ceilings depending on the wattage of the individual lamp: 100 W with sources under 2 W, 300 W for 2–8 W and 600 W above 8 W. Capacitive load may reach 176 µF. The other end of the scale matters just as much: the minimum load is 3 W, so a single 2 W LED lamp may not switch reliably — worth checking before you pick the fitting.
Setting up, by remote or on the unit
The twilight threshold adjusts between 2 and 1000 lux, including a Teach mode in which the detector memorises the ambient brightness it currently sees. On-time is set steplessly from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, and a pulse mode is available. A constant-light function runs the lighting for 4 hours regardless of brightness — it can only be triggered from the remote. Every setting is made either on the potentiometers or with the supplied RC9 remote, which lets a whole installation be configured without opening any housings; a Smart Remote is available as an option. Several detectors can be wired together master/master so that each of them switches the shared lighting.
Mounting and durability
Recommended mounting height is 2 to 5 m, with Steinel naming 2 m as optimal. The UV-resistant plastic housing is rated IP54, achieved through 2K technology, and the operating range runs from −20 °C to +50 °C, so the detector can stay outdoors all year. The supply is wide-range: 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Steinel covers the unit with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
