Arden LED Wall Sconce - 1 Light Source - Matte Black, Walnut Veneer by Elstead

The Arden LED wall light by Alora Mood pairs matte black with walnut veneer: a black tube runs into a ribbed, wood-wrapped section, and below it an opal glass globe hangs beneath a black perforated half-dome. The LED is built in, so no bulb is needed. It is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

How much space it takes

The fitting is 35.6 cm high and 15.2 cm wide, with a projection of 17.8 cm from the wall. In a narrow passage, check that last figure against the clear width of the corridor. It mounts on a round 10 cm plate and weighs 0.66 kg in total.

As a Class II fitting it is double insulated and needs no earth conductor, so it can be connected where the wall box has no earth.

Light from the built-in LED

The LED module gives 3000 K light — a warm white close to a household bulb — with a high colour rendering index of CRI 93, so the walnut grain and wall colours keep their true tone. The module is part of the fitting and is not replaceable. The manufacturer states that it is dimmable.

The opal glass spreads the light evenly. The half-dome is decorative: the manufacturer also allows for the globe to be left exposed when a quieter look is wanted.

Materials and character

The frame is aluminium and steel. Matt black paint against the warm walnut grain on the ribbed stem gives a contrast the manufacturer describes as industrial, while the line-and-globe form stays modernist. It is intended for hallways and corridors, bedrooms, kitchens and dining rooms.
