AINSLEY is a wall light by Hinkley, distributed across Europe by Elstead Lighting. The arm and mount are steel in a brushed brass finish, and the shade is a sphere of opal glass. The fitting is 19.1 cm tall, 16 cm across, and projects 20.6 cm from the wall.

For the bathroom, not only the living room

This is the key fact about the model: the manufacturer classes it for interior and bathroom use, and its IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction. It can therefore hang beside a mirror or above a basin – in zones where an ordinary IP20 wall light has no business being. Outside the bathroom it suits a hallway, a bedroom or a spot above a chest of drawers, because the form is neutral.

Lamp included

A 3 W G9 LED lamp is supplied – not an integrated module but a replaceable lamp, so years later you change the lamp rather than the fitting. It gives 300 lm at a warm 3000 K with CRI 80, and the manufacturer quotes it as equivalent to a 28 W traditional bulb. Rated life is 25,000 hours, about 23 years at three hours a day. The fitting works with dimmable lamps, so dimming needs both a suitable lamp and a dimmer.

Installation

Supply is 220–240 V, 50 Hz, straight from the mains – no transformer. Class I means the circuit needs a protective earth, which is standard in a bathroom anyway. Net weight 0.84 kg.

Finish

Brushed brass is a warm, matt finish – it does not mirror its surroundings the way chrome does and does not show fingerprints as readily. Elstead also offers the same model in polished chrome, so a chrome-finished bathroom can be matched to the taps and rails. The manufacturer gives a 2-year guarantee.
