Barbour is a tall wall light in torchiere form: a vertical rod is set on a round wall plate, carrying a white fabric shade at the top and extending below the plate at the bottom. The steel is finished in polished nickel, and a clear element shaped like a flattened sphere sits under the shade. The design comes from Quoizel and is distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting.
Size and mounting
The wall light is 67.6 cm tall including the shade, 20.3 cm wide and projects 23 cm from the wall. Compare the height with the free stretch of wall above a chest of drawers, a bed or a table, and the projection with the width of the walkway beside it. It weighs 1.4 kg.
It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to a protective earth. The manufacturer specifies it for indoor use only.
What light it gives
The fitting has one E14 socket for a lamp of up to 40 W. No lamp is included. It is compatible with dimmable lamps, so dimming needs such a lamp and a dimmer. The manufacturer suggests a clear LED candle lamp: 4 W, 400 lm, 3000 K — warm white at a brightness for mood lighting rather than main lighting.
The fabric shade diffuses the light, so the wall light brightens the area of wall around it rather than the whole room.
Where it fits
Barbour pairs a slim modern frame with a classic shade. It suits a living room, a bedroom beside the bed and a dining room, including as a pair on either side of a mirror or sideboard. The same range comes in harbor bronze and weathered brass finishes.
